History

KITM is rooted in the heritage of Kotibarsha and the educational vision of Knocks Educare Foundation.

Kotibarsha — A Historic Legacy

During the Gupta period, the whole North Bengal was known as “Pundra Vardhan Bhukti” (Pradesh). It was again sub-divided into a number of Vishayas (districts). Kotibarsha was one of the districts. Bangarh was the capital of Kotibarsha. Now the maximum area of Kotibarsha is known as Buniadpur–Gangarampur.

Introduction

West Bengal University of Technology Act 2000, under the West Bengal Act XV of 2000, was passed by the West Bengal Legislature and published in the Calcutta Gazette (Extraordinary) vide publication No. 146-L dated 20th July 2000. It started functioning with the assumption of office of the first Vice-Chancellor on the 15th January, 2001.

Kotibarsha Institute of Technology and Management, affiliated to MAKAUT (formerly WBUT), started on 28 June 2006 at Dakshin Dinajpur District with the noble efforts of the people of this locality. The college is promoted by Knocks Educare Foundation, specifically to cater to the growing needs of Management & IT Education in India. It is the prime constituent of its academic complex at Panjaripara, Near Buniadpur, District Dakshin Dinajpur (North Bengal), West Bengal.

Over a period of time KITM has been catering to the needs of various segments of IT & Management education aspirants. The flagship programmes include 4-year degrees under MAKAUT & AICTE in BBA (H), BCA (H), B.Sc. (H) Hotel and Hospitality Administration, and BBA (H) Hospital Management.

Background

Kotibarsha Institute of Technology and Management has been established by a group of professionals having a mix of entrepreneurial and work experience in the IT industry and other industries. The need of such an institution catering to technology and management education of the furthest part of North Bengal was always felt. The strategic location of Panjaripara (Buniadpur) was chosen, as there is no credible Technology and Management campus in Dakshin Dinajpur, Uttar Dinajpur and Malda. This location is chosen because of its strategic positioning with three major economic activity zones — Malda, Raiganj and Balurghat.

Panjaripara (Buniadpur) is an equal-distance place from three district headquarters — Malda, Balurghat and Raiganj. Buniadpur is the sub-divisional headquarters (Gangarampur at Buniadpur).
