During the Gupta period, the whole North Bengal was known as "PUNDRA VARDHAN BHUKTI " (PRADESH) .It was again sub-divided into number of "VISHAYAS"(DISTRICT). KOTIBARSHA was one of the districts.Bangarh was the capital of Kotibarsha. Now the maximum area of Kotibarsha is known as Buniadpur-Gangarampur.
